FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and was the predecessor to HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) and was designed with file transfer in mind. File transfer speeds may be slightly faster using FTP since HTTP adds file information headers that contain meta data (information about the file), which increase the size of the file.
In order to transfer files using FTP, you must have an FTP client. The FTP client helps you manage your files by listing the files' information (size and date), similar to a file explorer window. You can use an FTP client application, or use a web based FTP client. CheapFTP.com has an excellent free web based FTP client that allows you to manage your files directly from the web site, without the need for any other FTP software. You won't need to worry when you need to upload large files. Click here for more information.
