There are several ways of uploading files to a remote computer. The most common and efficient method is to use FTP. FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol, and was designed with file transfer in mind. Being the predicessor to HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol, the backbone protocol of the internet), it was created to serve one purpose; to get files from point A to point B.
Generally, to use FTP to upload a file, you must use an FTP client. You can purchase a commercial FTP client that is installed on the computer you want to transfer files to and from, or you can use a web site like CheapFTP.com that offers a free web based FTP client that allows you to transfer your files to and from your account using any computer that has access to the internet.
